Twitter can provide a new way to interact, and market, to potential customers

According to Evan Williams, co-founder of Twitter, "People are pretty much clueless when they first try Twitter.". Have no fear though! Angels Media are here to guide you through setting Twitter up as a marketing tool.

Look don't Tweet! Rather than simply jumping in and Tweeting to the world, take a strategic approach. Start by looking. First search for the name of your business. It may well be the case that people are already discussing you. One of the most useful aspects of finding these conversations is that you can provide a response to comments about the business. As well as  promoting customer's positive experiences with your business, you are also able to respond to any negative experiences customers have had. Sometimes you are able to publicly appease your disgruntled customer before the bad publicity goes viral.

The relaxed environment that twitter garners also provides the perfect opportunity to ask customers questions about what they would like from your company in the future. Not only does this provide an excellent image of your business as interactive and modern, but it can produce some valuable feedback that you can use to improve!

Your next step should be to conduct a search of people relevant to your industry. By joining conversations relating to your field generally, you may be able to help answers questions of users who are having problems. This will display how you are not only helpful, but also that you are reliably knowledgeable within your field.

One key rule to adhere to is to ensure you do not come across as a one-way marketing machine. In other words, if all your posts are 'canned' marketing messages that only serve to promote your business, people will soon become bored and stop following you. A better approach is to reward followers with messages about special offers or post articles that are of interest to your field. Once again, not only will this get your business name seen more, but it is a good way to highlight that you are keeping abreast of current issues.
